On April 4, 2019, the ACAMS New York Chapter held a panel discussion to discuss Strategies to Deter Terrorist Financing . The event took place at Fordham University Law School.
As noted during the presentation, terrorist activity, at times, may be funded though legitimate sources, and the low-cost nature of financing terrorist acts presents a significant challenge to banks and law enforcement agencies alike.
Financial institutions should remain vigilant in their fight against financial crime. Strategies include, but are not limited to, determining the terrorist threat, understanding the funding flows of terrorist activity, identifying typologies relevant to their institution, and maintaining a relationship with law enforcement.
The panel also suggested, as follow up reading, the following article on Project Cassandra.
In addition, the presentation materials includes links to many useful websites in the fight against terrorist financing.
